this is my happy place ❤️. . . .every weekend or so, I get to sneak away for a few hours to a local coffee shop that I love, while Eric does something fun with the kids. . . .It’s a chance to write and think and make things. A little window of time when I can finally pour everything out of my head that’s been gathering and bouncing around for weeks. (today it was my book proposal and new pieces for The Search for Self for February!) . . . .this is what self-care looks like for me. I feel so much better afterwards - as though lighter. I feel more like myself. . . .I’m getting better at noticing how I feel without it and learning to schedule it into my weekly planning. I’m also getting used to the idea that having a routine or schedule isn’t restrictive and takes away freedom. Instead I’m putting things into place to take care of myself, whether I like it or not sometimes. . . . .for those in The Search for Self (@thesearchfor_self ) I’m wondering if you would be interested in seeing how I schedule self care into my monthly planning? I have been home with our kids now for 5 years. and I still find it weird that people call me a “stay-at-home mom.” . . .because a) I never wanted to be (just not for me). . .and b) I haven’t stopped working since I left on maternity leave. (within hours of giving birth to Charlie, I can remember finishing off feedback from my hospital bed. I was teaching an online math course for ETFO at the time). . .I have created websites for clients and online courses. I’ve facilitated creative workshops... and I’ve been home with three small children. Spending hours in parks, exploring beaches, and wandering zoos. Doling out never ending snacks, making lunches and breaking up battles. . . .and it’s been hard. really f$@! hard. more so than I’ve let on. There have been many days where I’ve felt resentful towards my kids - which is an awful, awful feeling (not interested in advice here or mom shaming). On those days when I feel tired, impatient, and done - I just want some time to myself. . . .I also value childhood. so much ✨ It’s a magical time and I love that I get to see moments like these 😍 Charlie writing a “C” for the first time ❤️”C is in my name, Mama!” . . .I know that when I look back on my life, despite the ups and downs of each day, I will not regret this time. . .this is one of the things we’re going to explore next month in @thesearchfor_self - the concept of time. at the end of our lives, what will we regret if life stays as it is now? and how can we get creative to change it while we can... . . . . . .#thesearchforself #motherhoodishard #canadiankids #childhoodunplugged #letthembelittle #motherhoodintheraw #honestmommin
