A Simmer Pot for Cold Season

With three little ones all sick with a cold right now, I’m ready to try anything.

I went online and found two simmer pot recipes to fight colds.  One was from Fireflies and Mudpies and the other from The Genius Kitchen.  I didn’t have all of the ingredients so I did my own mash up.

Here’s what I tried:

Add the above ingredients to a pot of water and bring it to a boil.  Reduce to simmer and just check in now and then to make sure your pot has water.

My little concoction made the house smell great, and I like to think that I heard less coughing.  Poor things, they are so congested.

The Mayo Clinic states that air moisture eases skin and breathing symptoms.  As an aside, they also caution that humidifiers can actually make you sick if they aren’t maintained properly (dirty humidifiers can breed mold or bacteria).  Just a reminder to clean out your humidifier if you use one.

I hope that you avoid a cold taking over your house.  But if it finds you, this might be another thing to add to your arsenal.

Take care,
Lainie 🙂
