3 Great Books for Toddlers, Chosen by Toddlers Themselves

Our son, Thatcher, reading a book from the Toddler Book Club.

We gave 18 different books to 6 toddlers.

Each month we asked the kids which book was their favourite (we also knew which ones as parents we were reading over and over and over again!)

These three books emerged as toddler favourites…

1.We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
A family who realizes that they can’t go over it. They can’t go under it. They have to go through it. Swishy swashy, Swishy swashy.  On their adventure, them come across quite a surprise at the end!

2. The Foot Book, by Dr. Seuss
Big feet, small feet, feet near and feet far.  The pages are filled with silly feet for the kids to find.

3. The Pout-Pout Fish, by Deborah Diesen
This was as much a kid favourite as it was for us parents.  A glum fish who spread his dreary wearies all over the place.  Glub. Gluuuuub.  Gluuuuuuuub.  That is until one sweet looking fish came swimming into his life…

If you have toddlers or little ones in your life, these books would make for a great gift.  Approved by toddlers themselves 🙂

What is a Toddler Book Club?

Six months ago, a group of moms and I decided that we’d love for our kids to get new books each month.  The subscription programs being offered online were pricey ($200-300 / year) so we came up with our own version for $50.

We each bought 3 board books and came up with a drop off schedule.  The first week of each month, our kids get 3 new books delivered to their door.  It has been fun decorating the parcels for the kids and surprising them with mail.

If you’re interested in learning more about how to set up a Toddler Book Club, we’ve shared our process in this post: Starting a Toddler Book Club.

If you give it a try, let me know!  I’d love to hear how it’s going.
